5 Minute Timer

Five minutes is the length of a task you have been avoiding. It is short enough that starting costs nothing, which is the entire point: the hardest part of any work session is the first minute, and a five-minute commitment removes the excuse.

Set for 5 minutes and ready to start. Good for a quick reset, a stretch, or one small task you keep putting off.

The two-minute rule, with room to breathe

Five minutes defeats procrastination by making refusal absurd. You cannot reasonably claim you have no time for five minutes, so the negotiation ends and the work starts. Most sessions that begin as five minutes do not end there.

Best suited to people who are stuck, and know they are stuck.

Is five minutes really long enough to be useful?

For starting, yes, and that is the whole job. Momentum is the scarce resource, not time. Five minutes reliably turns into twenty once the first sentence is written or the first dish is washed.
